Ermitage’s Model United Nations conference
In an era defined by shifting alliances, rising tensions, and urgent calls for global cooperation, opportunities for young leaders to engage with international issues have never been more valuable. This year, Ermitage’s Model United Nations conference, ErMUN 2025, offered students precisely such a platform. Bringing together passionate delegates from multiple schools, the event invited participants to step into the realm of global diplomacy, confront real-world challenges, and explore the complexities that shape today’s geopolitical landscape.

Navigating the Tides of Global Diplomacy: ErMUN 2025 at Ermitage
On Saturday 29 November, Ermitage’s Model United Nations (MUN) team from the Lycée proudly hosted the sixth annual ErMUN conference. This highly anticipated event is where delegates from various schools come together, stepping into the shoes of global ambassadors to debate and demonstrate a profound understanding of the world's most pressing geopolitical issues.

Sailing the "Sea of Conflicts"
This year, the conference sailed under the compelling and timely theme, “Navigating a Sea of Conflicts.” With a sharp focus on global seas and oceans, a crucial, contested global stage, over 140 delegates engaged in rigorous debate throughout the day.

Six specialized committees were established to tackle diverse and complex topics. Discussions ranged from the escalating geopolitical tensions in the South China Sea and the new economic opportunities presented by emerging trade routes in the Arctic to the critical environmental hazards associated with weapons and arms testing in international waters. The level of research and articulation demonstrated by the student delegations was truly exceptional.

Insights from a French Navy Veteran
A major highlight of ErMUN 2025 was the presence of our distinguished guest speaker, Mr. Gaël Lacroix. Drawing on his extensive experience as a French Navy captain, Mr. Lacroix shared invaluable, firsthand insights that resonated with the conference theme. His speech captivated the delegates, grounding the day’s debates in the very real, complex realities of global security and maritime operations.

The Team Behind the Success
An event of this scale and complexity is only made possible by extensive behind-the-scenes work. We extend a massive thank you to our dedicated MUN director, Mr. Hager, and the entire team of Chairs who worked tirelessly to guide the intense debates, ensuring a productive, fair, and enriching experience for all 140+ participants.

Looking Ahead
Whether a seasoned MUN veteran or a first-time beginner, ErMUN 2025 proved to be an immensely rewarding experience for everyone involved. Delegates left with a renewed appreciation for the expansive world of diplomacy, the necessity of compromise, and the power of eloquent debate.
We congratulate all the participants on a successful conference and eagerly look forward to welcoming even more delegates to the next edition of ErMUN!
