As part of their Work Experience programme, IB MYP5 students at Ermitage ventured beyond the classroom to explore a wide range of professional settings. From bustling bakeries in Maisons-Laffitte to dynamic online roles with tech start-ups and non-profits across Europe and the Americas, students embraced the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world work environments.
Hands-On Learning and Meaningful Moments
Whether working in person or remotely - including right here on Ermitage campus - students engaged with teams, contributed to ongoing projects, and supported day-to-day operations. This one-week placement allowed them to build essential skills, and experience the challenges and rewards of professional life.
For Ivana, one unforgettable moment came during her time at a veterinary clinic. “One of my favourite moments of working at the vet was seeing dogs being so excited to reunite with their owners after their surgery,” she shared.
Ivana’s reflection captures the emotional and meaningful nature of hands-on work, especially in settings where care and compassion are central.
Growth Through Challenge
Students didn't shy away from the difficulties of adapting to unfamiliar environments and responsibilities. Instead, they approached each task with curiosity and determination. These experiences helped them grow not only in skill but also in confidence and resilience.
Looking Ahead
The work experience program gave IB MYP5 students a concrete insight into the working world: its pace, its players, and its opportunities. This immersion allows them, throughout their journey at Ermitage, to develop key skills for their future, such as strong communication and adaptability, while also helping them gain a clearer understanding of the possible paths after obtaining their IB diploma.
